  第一节(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C或D)中,选出最佳选项

Rainy days may stop some cheerful plans of outside activities, but it doesn't have to be boring or frustrating inside. On the next rainy day, try some of these ideas to make fun.

Tell stories. Tell old stories you heard when you were young. Or, you might make up some really fascinating stories just for the kids. Let them all have a turn at making up stories of their own.

Play in the kitchen.Let the kids help you cook a pizza or maybe some cookies. Give them a chance to help you in the kitchen and make something delicious.Just make sure the cooking is cleaning up.

Write a story together.Let the kids come up with a story of their own. They might want to write stories individually and then read them aloud to others. Or,they might want to get together and write a story together.

Play "let's pretend" games. Let the kids pretend to be teachers, doctors, nurses or policemen. Let them dress up in whatever you may have. Then let them play the roles. You might even volunteer to be the student or the patient.

Have a party. Let the kids pick out some music and dance around the room. Then, let them enjoy themselves with laughter, when you show them how it was done when you were a kid.

Use these ideas to get you started, and the kids may actually start wishing for more rainy days.

When you think of environmental problems you probably think of pollution, but the poaching (偷猎) of wild animals is one, too. Poaching has worried

environmentalists for years and, despite laws, this terrible crime has yet to be stopped.

Poaching is a serious problem, especially in Africa and Asia. This crime is done for mercial profit (商业利益), meaning hunters kill animals illegally and sell their most worthy parts. Although poachers usually hunt tigers, elephants and rhinos, they kill sharks and whales, too. This illegal hunting has led to decreasing populations of many species.

Many nations have banned poaching, but enforcement (执行) is difficult. The small number of police officers trained to deal with this creates an unfair advantage for poachers.Poachers usually kill animals for only one product: tigers are killed for their striped fur, elephants their ivory tusks and rhinos their large horn. The bodies of the animals are left to rot. Sharks’ fins are cut off and their bodies thrown back into the ocean. Without fins they can’t swim and will die. The illegally obtained fins are used to make shark fin soup.

The laws that “protect” animals are no more than pieces of paper. The current poaching bans need better enforcement, and I have a plan.

The number of enforcers needs to be increased so that there are enough to watch the herds and make sure poachers can’t shoot the animals. The reserve parks in Africa should bee a huge zoo so that the animals can move but within a fenced area. Another idea is to build a concrete enclosure instead of fences. Watchtowers could be constructed so enforcers can monitor a wide variety of poacher targets. This may not completely end the problem, but it would slow it down.

Poaching is a serious problem and a criminal act. The effects of poaching will be felt for centuries to come, and if there are any still alive, the only place to see animals might be in a zoo.

(24)Poaching has not been stopped mainly because _____.

  A. there are no laws to ban this crime

  B. this crime has not been that serious

  C. effective measures have not been taken

  D. the author’s plan has not been adopted

(2)What is the basic reason for poaching?

  A. People’s needs for food.

  B. People’s desire for profit.

  C. The lack of protecting law

  D. The worsening of environment.

()We can infer from the last paragraph that _____.

  A. poaching will be more serious if not stopped

  B. the effects of poaching will be removed soon

  C. it has been too late to stop poaching now

  D. zoos are the best place to protect animals

()The purpose of this passage is to _____.

  A. show the astonishing fact of the bloody illegal hunting

  B. provide some suggestions on banning poaching

  C. warn the seriousness of the present animal condition

  D. call on people to protect environment and animals

  C

Everyone has probably seen a movie or two about robots going against man. As a kid it was interesting, but not a reality. But today, when we look at how far scientists have come, it’s not just a funny thought but a real possibility.

Honda has already created a robot with eyes, legs, arms and hands and it can act just like a person. There is no end to what a robot could do in the future. Just think what we can do in twenty to thirty years. We’re dealing with almost an entire new species (种类) of human-like robots that could be cleverer than us. Can we continue to use these robots in a way that they serve us, or will they become so wise thatthey will want independence (独立)?

I am really not sure just how far scientists are going to perfect robots. But once this type of robot is made, they will be able to think, make decisions, sense the movement of others and decide what it wants to do.

A new invention has led to the introduction of a female robot, which was introduced at an entertainment show in Vegas. The robot called Roxy sells for between seven and ten thousand dollars. It is built to accompany (陪伴) females. This female (女性的) robot companion is called true companion and you can find such robots on the Internet. Robots used to have limited uses, but now they are almost in every field. This has opened the door to many dangerous possibilities in the future.

(28)Why does the writer mention movies about robots?

  A. To prove robots can go against man.

  B. To lead to the topic of the passage.

  C. To show that robots are liked by film makers.

  D. To show that people are interested in robots.

()What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 suggest?

  A. There is an end to the development of robots.

  B. Robots will look exactly like human beings soon.

  C. Robots may be able to do anything in the future.

  D. Human beings don’t know what kind of robot they want.

  ()According to thewritera perfect robot____________.

  A. can think as human beings do

  B. will always serve human beings

  C. is still not as clever as human beings

  D. will surely go against human beings

()It is implied in the passage that the writer worries that____________.

  A. human beings cannot create a perfect robot

  B. robots may be harmful in the future

  C. robots may be hard to recognize

  D. robots have limited uses

In 1978, I was 18 and was working as a nurse in a small town about 270 km away from Sydney, Australia. I was looking forward to having five days off from duty. Unfortunately, the only one train a day back to my home in Sydney had already left.So I thought I'd hitch a ride (搭便车).

I waited by the side of the highway for three hours but no one stopped for me. Finally, a man walked over and introduced himself as Gordon. He said that although he couldn't give me a lift, I should come back to his house for lunch. He noticed me standing for hours in the November heat and thought I must be hungry. I was doubtful as a young girl but he assured (使…放心)me I was safe, and he also offered to help me find a lift home afterwards. When we arrived at his house, he made us sandwiches. After lunch, he helped me find a lift home.

Twenty-five years later, in 2003, while I was driving to a nearby town one day, I saw an elderly man standing in the glaring heat, trying to hitch a ride. I thought it was another chance to repay someone for the kindness I'd been given decades earlier. I pulled over and picked him up. I made him comfortable on the back seat and offered him some water.

After a few moments of small talk, the man said to me, “You haven't changed a bit, even your red hair is still the same.” I couldn't remember where I'd met him. He then told me he was the man who had given me lunch and helped me find a lift all those years ago. It was Gordon.

  A. her work delayed her trip to Sydney

  B. she was going home for her holidays

  C. the town was far away from Sydney

  D. she missed the only train back home

()Which of the following did Gordon do according to Paragraph 2?

  A. He helped the girl find a ride.

  B. He gave the girl a ride back home.

  C. He bought sandwiches for the girl.

  D. He watched the girl for three hours.

(3)The reason why the author offered a lift to the elderly man was that

  A. she realized he was Gordon

  B. she had known him for decades

  C. she was going to the nearby town

  D. she wanted to repay the kindness she once got

()What does the author want to tell the readers through the story?

  A. Giving sometimes produces nice results.

  B. Those who give rides will be rapid.

  C. Good manners bring about happiness.

  D. People should offer free rides to others.
