The weather is getting hotter. You are thirsty playing basketball or riding home from school. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for your health.
There are plenty of "energy drinks" (能量饮料)on the market. Most of them have
beautiful colors and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful to your health. Sounds great!
But after a careful check you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine(咖啡因) in them. These drinks are especially aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep
you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.
Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited(限制) its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one box of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty sleeping and can even cause heart problems. Scientists say that teenagers should be discouraged from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.

Easter Day, which fell on April 5th this year, dates back to 325 AD. It is celebrated
by hundreds of millions of people around the world. In my family, it is considered as the
greatest holiday of a year.
Every Easter my brothers and I wake up early and , like on Christmas morning, run downstairs to see what surprises are waiting for us. We are always excited when the Easter Bunny(兔子), who is like Father Christmas, comes and leaves us a basket of candy. It’s
wonderful. It is like there is a miracle every Easter morning.
Our mother, however, doesn’t let us eat chocolate as much as we want. The chocolate bunnies and candy eggs have to wait. Instead, we have to get dressed in our new clothes.
Then my family go to church. After that we go to an elder family member’s house for a party. My mother’s family is from Eastern Europe, so we often eat many traditional European dishes. My favourite is ham and a special potato salad. We usually have 20 or more
family members at the dinner.
After dinner, my cousins, brothers and I go outside. While we are sleeping the night
before Easter, our parents have hidden plastic eggs in the backyard. We always have a contest(比赛) to see who can find the most eggs. The winner will get a prize. It is our annual Easter

When my grandmother was 89 years old, she had some problems with her heart. All of us are worried about her health.
So one day my family went with her to the doctor, who told her that she needed an operation ( 手 术 ). But because of her age, the operation could be dangerous He went on to say that my grandmother would have a 40 percent chance of having a heart attack ( 发 作 ) and a 30 percent
chance of dying during the operation.
My grandmother, who was quite shocked, said to the doctor, “Doctor, as long as you’re talking about statistics (数据), I have a statistic for you: there is a 100 percent chance of you not operating on me!” With these words, my grandmother got up and left the doctor’s office.
My grandmother might have been stubborn (执拗的), but she was not a fool. So the next day she went to another doctor, and he too told her she needed an operation.
My grandmother asked the doctor, “If I were your mother, what would you suggest?”
The doctor walked up to her, smiled, put his arm around her, and said, “Mom, let’s do this
operation!”
She had the operation and came out fine.
My grandmother passed away a few weeks before her 97th birthday. However, because of her
positive attitude, she gave us, her family and friends, almost eight more years of life to enjoy with
her.

We were driving in the right lane(车道) when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes(刹车), skidded, and missed the other car’s back end by just inches! The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, turned his head angrily and started yelling(叫喊) bad words at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean , he was friendly. So, I said, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” And this was what my taxi driver told me which, I call, ‘The Law of the Garbage Truck.’ (垃圾车)
Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump(倾卸) it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You’ll be happy you did.
So this was it: “The Law of the Garbage Truck.” I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the streets?
It was that day I said, “I’m not going to do it anymore.”
I began to see garbage trucks. I see the load they’re carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my Taxi Driver, I don’t make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, and move on.
Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses. What about you? The mark of a successful person is how quickly they can get back their focus on what’s important.
